How Much Does a New Roof Cost in 2026? Our Prices (First-Party Data)
This is our own data, from our own 2026 price sheet. It is not a US average. It is not copied from some other site. You won’t find these numbers anywhere else, because they are our prices. As noted in step 2 above, this is what you pay us per square.
Every roof we build follows one rule. We call it the Josh Brooks Class 4 Standard™. It is our own proprietary installation method, built from 30 years of Colorado roofs. It has two parts:
- Every shingle roof gets Class 4 shingles. These are the top grade for hail. We use Owens Corning Duration STORM or better. We don’t put on standard shingles at all.
- Every roof gets all new metal and flashing. We don’t reuse old parts.

Are Hail-Resistant Roofs Worth It? What the Experts Say
This part builds on our price data above. Here is what outside experts say.
Underwriters Laboratories (UL)
According to UL, Class 4 is the top hail grade a roof can get. The test is called UL 2218. A 2-inch steel ball is dropped on the same spot twice. A Class 4 shingle must not crack.
Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS)
According to Dr. Ian Giammanco, managing director of atmospheric science at IBHS, Colorado makes up only about 10% of the national market for impact-resistant shingles, even though the state sits in Hail Alley. IBHS fires lab-made hail at full-size roofs at its research center in South Carolina.
In a 2025 study, Giammanco and fellow IBHS researchers found that small hail under 1 inch, which the National Weather Service doesn’t even rate as severe, slowly wears shingles down. Weathered shingles that took small-hail hits were about ten times more likely to be damaged by a later large hailstorm. Impact-resistant shingles held their granules only slightly better under repeated small hail, so every roof should get checked after a hail season, not just after the big storms.
Rocky Mountain Insurance Association
Carole Walker, executive director of the Rocky Mountain Insurance Association, told KOAA News in December 2025 that in Colorado, “many of the insurers give a discount for having hail resistant roofing products.” Ask your insurer what discount applies before you choose a shingle.
Colorado Division of Insurance
The Colorado Division of Insurance says to get a written quote and check a roofer’s past work before you hire. This is key after a storm.

Hail-ready roofs in Colorado: from the basics to the technical details

Level 1 — The basics: what a “Class 4” roof is
A Class 4 shingle has the highest impact-resistance rating a shingle can earn. It is built to take hail hits that crack ordinary shingles. On the Front Range, where hail season runs roughly April through September, that rating is the single biggest factor in how a roof survives a storm.
Level 2 — The insurance side: why the rating matters to your premium
Colorado law (C.R.S. 10-4-110.8) requires insurers to consider impact-resistant roofing when setting rates, which is why many carriers offer a Class 4 discount. According to the Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association (RMIIA), Colorado is consistently one of the top states in the country for hail insurance claims. Ask your carrier for the exact discount on your policy — it varies by company.
Level 3 — The technical spec: how Class 4 is tested
The rating comes from UL 2218, the impact-resistance standard published by UL Solutions. In the Class 4 test, a 2-inch steel ball is dropped from about 20 feet onto the same spot of the shingle, and the shingle must not crack. Building-science researchers at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) study real-world hail performance of roofing at the IBHS Research Center, and their work is a key reason insurers and building officials pay attention to impact ratings.
Level 4 — Our method: the JBC Storm-Ready Standard
The JBC Storm-Ready Standard is the name for the build spec Josh Brooks Construction uses on every shingle roof:
- Class 4 impact-resistant shingles only — Owens Corning Duration STORM or better.
- All new metals and flashing on every job — nothing reused from the old roof.
- Licensed, local crews — not storm chasers who leave town after the season.
